The Little Black Dress. Every woman has one… or should. Safe for any special occasion and a wardrobe staple. Long or short, spring or fall, casual or formal, the LBD is a great last minute choice for date night, work (when appropriate), or mom’s day out.

The key to any dress is to be comfortable, but any designer will tell you that a dress worn in public should outline and flatter your figure. I have… maybe five black dresses- all different lengths and silhouettes for various occasions. I aim for a dress that accentuates my curves, especially for a date or night out. At work, i’m definitely more conservative with length, cut and fit.
Shoe selection for a LBD is very easy – keep it simple and sexy with a black pump or dress it down casually with some cute Chucks or KEDS. I opted for some ankle boots from Target. Little Black Dresses are so easy to go from day to night by the switch of the shoe or you can completely change the mood of the look by adding a cardigan or leather jacket.

Styling a black dress…ALWAYS ACCESSORIZE! Black is the go to color for anything considered a staple. One reason everyone gravitates towards it is because (1) its slimming (2) gold, silver, pearls or stones…everything pairs well with black. If you want to break up the black or create an “eight” figure, comfortably belt above your waist/under your bust.

Last LBD tip, if you thrift or shop to through Fashion Nova or clearance racks, a great way to make your look “expensive” is investing in a great bag (or great pumps). By investing, I mean a pretty penny, BUT the great thing about name brand bags is that they hold value. They can easily be resold if kept in great condition and they last longer because…they tend to be high quality and handmade.
