Mixing prints, patterns and textures this fall plus a few good reads….
Spring Career Wear – Kimono + Pencil
I love the trench and unconventional jacket/blazer trend. Especially this number from H&M with floral accents…. and kimono details. This combines two spring wardrobe MVPs—florals and jackets—into one seamless look.
Nicole Dillon was Teacher of the Year at Oglethorpe Charter School. Nicole is definitely the “Do-It-All” woman. She has an enormous heart and oozes a joyous personality. I captured her personality for the night in a bold Calvin Klein dress from Roz and Ali and all of her gifted accessories from Dillards.
Nicole is a gem, so bright gemstone colors are beautiful against her chocolate skin. This was a perfect look for an evening of recognition, but can be worn on a date night, church or any of her speaking engagements!
Valentines Day falls on a weekday this year.
I have a record of being single on the day itself, so I’m accustomed to dressing for and taking myself out (even though I do during the year anyways…Spa day is DESPERATELY calling my name).
You can still dress flirty and appropriate for work or class. Check out this super affordable look I achieved mainly shopping on clearance racks.

Holiday parties and formals are in full swing now that December is here. I’ve got the perfect look for your corporate holiday gathering or a night out on the town with your girlfriends or beau. Think Bold…Bright…Striking, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. This look was under $75.
The weather is changing, leaves are getting darker…and (in Rafiki’s voice) it is time for dark and seasonal lips. Berries, wine, oranges, plums. I got ’em all. Granted, you can wear any lipstick color you want any time of the year, but here are some sure fire hits for Autumn AND they are all affordable (less than $10, most $5)…with TWO Mac options. You’ll definitely notice some are dupes of each other!
I’ve seen and participated in traditional business dress: black/dark blue/grey suit with a collar shirt or button down. Safe + Traditional =BORING. Now, don’t get me wrong, these are STYLE BASICS/STAPLES and you need them for your interview, new job or day in court. HOWEVER, you can be very chic, modern, classic, comfortable and a standout in a bright suit, when done correctly. Stick with a basic color: blue, but maybe a royal blue. If you wear a suit, IT NEEDS TO FIT but NOT BE TIGHT. Also, trade in the button down for a blouse, but the pattern doesn’t have to be to busy. If it is, opt for minimal accessories.
What i’ve done is taken this bright suit and paired it with a blouse that had a print with blue in it. It’s not too busy. To break up some of the same colors, I added a necklace with a pop of color and grey heels.
I love pairing different textures and styles together. You can pair a beautiful blouse with trousers, khakis, jeans or old high waisted shorts. I’m not one to tone down color…it’s like wearing a good highlight; you HAVE to add more. Paired with a bright pink wallet, floral print scarf, turquoise earrings and fringed heels. I also would’ve loved to wear my orange matte lipstick with this, if someone (COUGH, mama) didn’t hijack it. Spice up your look by adding a colorful scarf or bold lip; very simple additions!
